Sub Tuum Praesidum

We turn to you for protection,
Holy Mother of God.
Listen to our prayers
and help us in our needs.
Save us from every danger,
glorious and blessed Virgin.

This prayer, known in Latin as "Sub tuum Praesidium" and first found in a Greek papyrus, c. 300, is the oldest known prayer to the Virgin.

Hi Molly,

this is a great prayer and it is interesting to see one 300 years old. But I don't know Latin, and it would be interesting to know what 'sub tuum praesidum' means. Since you are learning Latin, maybe you could translate? Thanks!

Hi Sharon,

From what I can tell it means 'under your protection".

I'm pretty sure that's right.

Josette,

Thanks for coming by, I hope you keep coming.

I just stumbled on the website for the head coverings & I liked them so much I thought I'd help advertise. :)

I haven't purchased one yet though, but I will soon. When I do I'll probably post on it.
