Summer Fashions

From Sunday's bulletin:
Dear Parents and Parishioners,
The fashions for this summer are of grave danger to Christian modesty. Mini-skirts and dresses, short-shorts, and very low-cut blouses are the fashions for this summer. Please remember that we are Christians, followers of Christ, children of God, and temples of the Holy Spirit. We are set apart by God's saving grace. Let us always follow our Blessed Mother's example and ask for her help. If we blend in with the pagan world, what type of witness would we be to our Baptismal promises? Our Lady says, "...and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength." (Mark 12:30) Dressing with these styles for the summer are an offense to God and an ocassion of sin to others. Let us give Glory to God in dressing modestly for Church, work, school and play.
May God bless you!

A Cousin's Promise

I have never been a great reader, no matter how much I wish I was. I am constantly started new books without completing them. Lately I've been trying to choose reading material that is more education than entertaining, but they don't always seem to hold my attention for very long. Truth is, I love stories!! Especially romantic stories, but it is very difficult to find a romantic book (maybe I don't look hard enough) that isn't full of vulgar acts & language.
Until Now.
I just finished A Cousin's Promise and I loved it!! I can't wait to read the next book. If I had a 12 or 13 year old daughter I would let her read it.
Have you read any good books lately? Can you make any recommendations??

Modest Swimwear
It's a dreaded time of year (well, almost) for me as far as what to wear when a bathing suit is required. The "modest" bathing suit I ordered last year turned out to be backless and the straps do not stay in place if you're actually swimming, which is a problem for me since I like to play in the water with the kids. I can't believe some of the bathing suits I've seen in the stores, especially Target, most of the one pieces there have large cut outs on the sides. HELLO!!!
I did a search again this year and the picture below is the one I liked best. Last years suit looked like a regular bathing suit so nobody made any comments, but I am fully aware of what lays ahead if I chose this style. I do not preach modesty to my friends & family but i do try my best to dress that way. I do love wearing jeans & always have, but the tops I chose to wear do not show my chest or bra strap, I also will not buy a skirt if it is above the knee, and for this I do get made fun of at times. But I don't mind it too much.
The bathing suit here can be found at Christa-Taylor.

Nine years old and wearing sexy underwear
Dublin - Girls as young as nine are being encouraged to give themselves womanly curves by wearing figure-enhancing padded bras on sale in Irish stores.
The National Parents' Council has condemned the practice as inappropriate and potentially damaging to girls' self-image at a vulnerable age.
Penneys is selling padded bras aimed at girls aged just nine to 10 years, while Dunnes has figure-enhancing bras on sale for girls aged 10 and over.
Penneys is also selling knickers to girls aged nine to 10 with the message 'This chick bites back' emblazoned on them .
The sale of this type of underwear is part of an unwelcome trend toward early sexualisation of children, and gives them the wrong messages very early, said National Parents' Council (Primary) chief executive Fionnuala Kilfeather.
"At this age, girls should be running around outside playing, they shouldn't be worried about their figures and making themselves look older. If they start to give themselves a bust at nine, what will they be like when they're teenagers," she said.
"It's a very insidious practice to target a girl's self-image at this age and sell clothes to give them a figure they don't naturally have at this stage.
"It also might make some people look at them differently on the street and that's entirely inappropriate and worrying at that age," she said.
Parents should exercise common sense by refusing to buy these garments for their daughters, she said.
"They could also mention it in store and bring pressure to bear on the management not to stock inappropriate items," she said.
But Penneys defended the sale of these bras to young girls. "These are moulded rather than padded items and they are made that way for modesty rather than shape enhancement purposes," a spokesperson said.
"Many young girls feel self-conscious at that age and want to make sure they are well covered-up with a lightly padded item," she said.
The cut and shape of these bra and knicker sets was fuller than those targeted at adult women and was felt to be appropriate for their age, she added.
They had been on sale, sized by age, in Penneys children's departments since last year after initially being sold as small adult sizes within the women's lingerie department.
In regard to slogans on knickers, Penneys felt the colours and patterns on all their children's underwear was suitable for the age groups targeted.
Last year, a number of stores stopped selling children's stationery emblazoned with the Playboy bunny logo after criticism from parents' groups.

Your precious too!
Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get them... Your body is sacred. You're far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.

Modest Is Making A Comeback!

I'm always amazed by what I see most women/young girls wearing--I mean how can anyone be comfortable or really feel good about themselves when their chest is falling out of their top, or when their pants are sooooooo low that you can see the strings from their thong underwear? I have worn low cut tops in the past, and spent every moment worrying about whether or not it's too low--I never felt more confident because of it. I think that's what these young girls are led to believe, that dressing immodestly gives you confidence. How sad! It took me awhile but I finally realized that you can still be fashionable while dressing conservatively. If more women really stop and think about it, I'll bet that they too realize that dressing modestly makes them truly feel better about themselves. However, shopping is an issue for me, it's really hard to find appropriate clothing in stores these days so I do a lot of shopping online. Hopefully it will get easier soon!!
2522 Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relationships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one's choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

Modest Wedding Dress
What's the first thing you do when you begin to plan your wedding? That's right you look for a wedding dress. Well if you are looking for something conservative yet attractive you're in for a painfully, almost hopeless search. Or so you might think!! Many people think you need to buy a dress and keep it the way it is. Not so. Find a little dress shop, not a major store, they only sell off the rack. Before you start looking around tell them what you want and make sure they'll work with you, then look through the catalogs, if you see something you'd LOVE to wear but it's too off the shoulders or low cut just discuss the options with the drress maker. That's exactly what I did and the dress was amazing! As for the bridesmaid dresses, I found a picture of what I wanted online and the dress maker made them from scratch. Hope this helps!!!
